"Hell yeah" or "Oh no"

2018 Fashion trends: Hell, yeah’s and Oh no’s…

Last year’s fashion trends started from totally clear jeans to Balenciaga’s knock off IKEA totes. 2017 was full of surprises, and we’re expecting nothing less of 2018. Now, as much as we love to hate these trends, we’re all guilty of modish behaviour with some of these odd choices (Don’t get me started on those cross-body fanny packs). So, we’re here to give you the scope on what’s going to be popping off this year, what to shout, “hell yeah” at, and what to scream “oh no” to.

Our first victim must be the God-awful clear plastic everything’s that we’ve seen on the runways and on our feeds! The personal saunas that cling to our bodies are simply not cute, but a sweat catalyst that are truly disgusting if I was to be completely honest. Yet as I say this, I find myself placing some discounted glass thigh-high boots in my cart on Nasty Gal. As I said: guilty. For the first few minutes, these plastic garments could be considered desirable, but for now it’s a hell no.

Next, we have checks and tartan prints that sometimes remind me of kitchen cloths, but amongst all the negative can be a cool look. For example, Tartan pant bottoms are gorgeous on both men and women when paired well, whether it be a cheeky tartan school skirt or regular trousers- the print will keep everyone’s eyes on you. Although, we’re not quite sure whether it’s a hit or miss, so you decide whether it’s a hell yeah or oh no.

We’ve never had a problem with showing a little skin, so sheer seems to be right up our alley. The daring fabric can vary in several different styles and has been notorious throughout New York fashion week; from completely sheer dresses, to simple clear tops and delicate evening shawls. This is a trend from last year that is sure to cross over in 2018 and we totally approve. A hell yeah.

Sparkles. Shine. More sparkles. Who doesn’t live for sequins? The in-your-face fashion trend has been hot since the 70s and still isn’t ready to take its final lap. There was a whole lot of bling on the cat walk, especially for Toronto designer Greta Constantine spring 2018 collection in New York.

One trend that is really at its peak is 90s/2000s slim shades. Several of us have been ravishing our parents dusty store a ways to find these, and in some cases, find out our parents aren’t as cool as they made out they were. These ultra slim shades that just hang at the tip of your nose have been a thing for a while, but once the Kardashians started to wear them… All hell broke loose.

It’s safe to say these are our favourite trends and the most important as of right now. Can’t wait to see the tartans (and sequins) all summer long!

Stay cute and trendy kids
